Artist Bio
My Hakka Grandmother
Composed by Gabrielle Lee for percussion and voice. Poem by Eileen
Chong. Composed in 2021.
Eileen Chong is a Sydney-based poet, born in Singapore of Chinese
descent. Her poems radiate her experiences around food, family,
migration, love and loss. I came across her poem ‘My Hakka Grandmother’
while in search of Hakka text to set to music. It is my absolute privilege to
be able to accompany her words with her permission, using my voice and
percussion instruments.
