MARIMBA 100: Simple Exercises And Techniques For Your Best Performance Workshop description: Do you ever feel like your marimba playing isn’t improving enough? Or your hands feel stiff, sore and painful during performance? Do you want your sound to be bigger? Or maybe, you feel nervous before stepping on stage to perform in front of an audience? We can fix that! As a touring percussionist, Adam Tan has played in venues across the world to all kinds of different audiences, and in this session, Adam will share some simple exercises and techniques that you can try to help you play your next marimba performance at your best. This is an interactive workshop, so please bring your own mallets if you have them. These exercises are suitable for all difficulty levels.
Artist Bio
Based in Boorloo (Perth, Australia), Adam has performed and presented as a marimba soloist to audiences in Argentina, Australia, Honduras, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, United Kingdom and the United States, including five Percussive Arts Society International Conventions (PASIC) as well as over 50 solo masterclasses presented in universities and schools across the world. As a percussion content creator, Adam continues to grow with over 50,000 combined followers and 10 million views. Adam has also served as faculty and adjudicator for festivals and competitions and was invited by Ju Percussion Group as a VIP Guest to TIPC 2023 in Taipei, and was nominated for a 7NEWS Young Leadership Award in 2024. As a composer, Adam’s works for percussion are performed by thousands annually and appear on repertoire lists in schools and competitions globally and has been featured in multiple issues of Percussive Notes. Adam is also Founder and Executive Director of Marimbafest Australia, curating Marimbafest, the biggest marimba festival in the southern hemisphere, with 5 editions and over 200 participants from 15 countries from 2019 to 2024. Adam is an artist for Marimba One (Premier Artist), Encore Mallets/Salyers Percussion (Signature Artist), Black Swamp Percussion (Artist Endorser), Edition Svitzer, HAOSEN, Soundbrenner and is an Associate Artist with the Australian Music Centre.
