WORKSHOP – LATIN PERCUSSION
In this workshop In this workshop Giorgio Rojas will lead you through the fundamentals of Afro-Peruvian music styles Festejo, Lando, Pano Livio and more. Juan Carlos Allende will help him demonstrate how these styles can be combined and adapted to work with styles from Cuba, Columbia and beyond.
Giorgio Rojas is one of the country’s finest Afro-Peruvian drummers. He and his family moved to Australia from Peru in 1993 forming a well-regarded Latin band Mi Tierra which toured regularly throughout Australia. This workshop explores his interpretations of Afro-Peruvians music styles such as Festejo, Lando and Pano Livio and how they can be applied and integrated into jazz, world and popular music grooves.
Giorgio’s background includes performing with acclaimed dance show ‘Burn The Floor’ in China, Germany, Japan, Holland, Canada, USA and New Zealand. You can hear him with MI Tierra, Gonzalo Porta, Camino, Mucho Mambo, Kriolla Collective, Roots percussion group and Ursula Yovich. Giorgio’s excursions into jazz are with coleagues James Ryan’s Subterreans and Gai Bryant’s ALLY appearing at major Jazz and World music festivals in Australia and New Zealand.
